Manjhi - The Mountain Man Story
Manjhi - The Mountain Man is inspired from the true story of Dashrath Manjhi played by Nawazuddin Siddiqui who has carved a path through a mountain in Bihar. Dashrath Manjhi from Gehlaur was forced to marry at an early age and an unhappy Dashrath makes his path to Dhanbad where he works in coal mines. He returns back after seven years when he falls in love with Phaguniya (Radhika Apte) and he later finds that she is the girl whom he married during his early age. Unfortunately his wife gets killed because of a mountain and Dasrath decides to take revenge on the mountain. He succeeds after 22 years by carving a 360 feet long and 30 feet wide mountain. This forms the rest of the movie.
Manjhi - The Mountain Man Analysis :
The first half of the movie has been slow in pace but it carries lot of depth throughout. The first scene of the movie showing Nawazuddin carving the mountain with blood all over his dress is heart touching and makes an enough impact. Though the first half of the movie has been decent.
What makes the film is the second half which picks up in all the aspects. The movie has some hilarious oneliners and dialogues which elevate the movie completely. The songs and the background score have been apt. The second half is sure a game changer which makes the film completely impressive.
Manjhi - The Mountain Man Performance :
Nawazuddin Siddiqui has been terrific throughout the film and he climbed a step further with this movie. He completely carried the film on his shoulders and Radhika Apte has been decent in her limited screen presence. The chemistry has been natural between them which brings out enough feel between them. All the other characters have delivered out their best for the movie.
The story of the movie is taken from the biopic of Dashrath Manjhi, it has been transformed completely into a movie. The screenplay and the dialogues have been outstanding throughout the movie. The music and the background score have been apt. The cinematography is the main highlight of the movie. The production values have been grand enough and the director Ketan Mehta has nailed the film completely in his own style as a perfect flick.
Final Word:
Manjhi - The Mountain Man has been brilliant on screen and it is one of the most meaningful films in the recent times. Nawazuddin’s outstanding performance and the narration makes the film worth watching.
