Frequent consumption of nuts lowers risk of bowel cancer

Eating nuts benefits health, but recently scientists have revealed that frequent nut consumption helps in reducing the colorectal cancer.
Researchers looked at the association between nut consumption and risk of colorectal cancer among 75,680 women in the Nurses' Health Study, with no previous history of cancer. During the study, the subjects consumed one-once serving of nuts, including tree nuts such as almonds, Brazil nuts, cashews, hazelnuts, macadamias, pecans, pine nuts, pistachios and walnuts, two or more times per week had a 13 percent lower risk of colorectal cancer compared to those who rarely consumed nuts.
Mr. Ying Bao, the lead researcher said that while this association was not statistically significant, a possible inverse association was suggested and this has been observed in previous prospective studies as well.
Usually the risk of colorectal cancer is higher among women with excess body weight and type 2 Diabetes. As the nuts have been associated with the less weight gain and decreases risk of type 2 diabetes, increasing nut consumption may result in reduced risk of developing colorectal cancer.
Apart from health and beauty benefits, nuts also can reduce the risk of colorectal cancers as per the recent study published in Journal of Clinical Nutrition. So, experts suggest regular consumption of nuts for women.
