Director Jeeva Sankar tells that he wrote the script of Amara Kaaviyam, produced by Arya's The Show People, in reverse. "The climax is based on a real-life incident I was exposed to during 1982-83. I was a second standard student in Thanjavur then. When I decided to turn director, this incident is what struck me first. So, I began to write a story where events led to this ending. I would say 60 per cent of the film is based on real-life events as I've used moments from my life and the lives of my friends for the portions leading to the climax”.
The director admits that the story will work in a contemporary setting too but decided to go period to make the film look interesting. "Thanks to technology, today's youngsters have the luxury of face-to-face communication even when they are apart. So, I wanted to look back at a different era of romance, from the pre-internet and pre-mobile phone days," he explains.
