Study proves negative impact of Energy drinks on hearts
Posted: 04/02/2015 06:33 PM IST
According to the international study conducted by Fabian Sanchis-Gomar, it was proved that energy drinks are dangerous for the hearts of adolescents and young adults.
The risk of triggering sudden arrhythmic death syndrome is significant in persons underlying heart diseases. It is estimated that 31 percent of 12-19 year old adolescents regularly consume EDs which contain high amount of labeled caffeine. Also they contain “masked” caffeine in the form of guarana which is identical to caffeine of coffee beans but in twice the concentration. It leads to uncertain interactions.
Dr. Sanchis-Gomar suggests:
One can (250 mL) of an ED per day is safe for most healthy adolescents.
ED consumption before or during sports practice should be avoided.
Adolescents with clinically relevant underlying medical conditions should consult cardiologists before drinking EDs.
Excessive ED consumption together with alcohol or other drugs, or both, may lead to adverse effects, including death.
As it has negative impact on hearts health, the youth are requested to be aware of this news to have healthy heart.
