Natural ways to reduce period pain

Menstrual cramps are quite common in every woman. But if you are lucky, you will experience slight discomfort or if you are among 15% of women who suffer from cramps, then it will be difficult to cope with this pain. Here are five natural ways to get rid of menstrual cramps.
Get enough calcium:
Foods rich in calcium are broccoli, yogurt, cabbage and milk. These foods will naturally fight muscle spasms and help you avoid cramps. Women need at least 1,200 mg of calcium daily. So try to consume leafy vegetables more in your diet.
Apply heat:
Heat helps to relax the contracting muscles in your uterus, which is the cause for your pain. Stretch out and relax for a few minutes with a heating pad set on low resting on your abdomen. The heat will loosen the tight muscles and ease cramping.
Eat chocolate:
Experts advise to consume dark chocolates during menstrual period as it stimulates secretions of serotonin hormone. It gives you good feeling and relieves from irritation, anxiety and mood swings. Prefer to consume dark chocolates with high cacao levels.
Reduce salt and caffeine consumption:
Experts advise to reduce the consumption of salt and caffeine content during the menstrual period. Caffeine can irritate the stomach by increasing gastrointestinal activity which will worsen the condition of cramps. High salt consumption will aid water retention.
Hydrate:
Staying hydrated will help you relieving bloating sensation. Experts suggest drinking two liters water a day which will speed up your digestion and helps in preventing water retention caused by monthly hormonal changes.
