At a time when Prime Minister Narendra Modi is looking to strengthen Indo-Japanese ties, theTamil film industry seems to have realized the potential Japan holds as a market for filmsmade here. Slowly but surely, more and more Tamil film directors are making efforts to market and release their films in the land of the rising sun. News of Japanese loving Tamil films first made headlines after the immense success of Superstar Rajinikanth's Muthu. Subsequently, attempts have been made to release several other Tamil films there. More recently, Kochadaiyaan's Japanese version was released and Shankar's upcoming film Ai too is expected to be released in a number of languages, including Japanese.

Says a source, "The Singapore government has been contemplating and developing film tourism. So, in a bid to do that, they have decided to fund some feature films in Tamil. One of the Tamil films that is being backed by the Media Development Authority of Singapore is a movie titled Chennai Singapore”. The film will feature Arya's brother Sathya in the lead along with Hebah Patel of Thirumanam Enum Nikkah fame. It is a rom-com that is being directed by Abbas Akbar. The film, which is to hit screens in the first half of 2015, will have music by Ghibran. With the Tamil market expanding in Japan, it is a good news for Tamil Film makers in future so that their movies can have a foreign language viewers and profits as well.
